We are excited to start off 2023 with thought-provoking and multi-sensory immersion into themes of decolonization, climate change and justice at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in Toronto. This event will include educational tours, self-reflection, and connection and discourse with the DiS community and the ROM team:
A self-guided viewing of Kent Monkman - Being Legendary with a dedicated Indigenous Museum Educator as a resource and exercises for self-reflection. Kent Monkman is an artist from the Fisher River Cree Nation known for his provocative interventions into Western European and American art history.
A private climate change tour of the Royal Ontario Museum with a dedicated docent.
A 1.5 hour workshop facilitated by the world’s first museum climate change curatorial team, Soren Brothers, Allan and Helaine Shiff Curator of Climate Change and Sarah Kamau, Climate Change Project Coordinator, to discuss reflections and engagement on climate change and decolonization. This will be a great time to connect with others in the DiS community.
Refreshments/coffee/snack break
General admission to the ROM provided for further exploration
